Type Design, Visual Narrative, Social Design

Weaving a narrative for the relevance and preservation of traditions, as communities and the local are what forms the framework for the ‘Fabric of a Nation’.

The project is inspired by Khadi, a traditional Indian fabric symbolic of unity, equality and self-sufficiency, this handwoven textile piece communicates the loss of certain social values and the need for their re-introduction in the society.

Research, ideation and reflection in action. The creative process involved working with various materials and mediums. Constantly experimenting on the go resulting in positive surprises and unexpected outcomes.

Envisioning the weave as a grid and de-constructing the warp-weft of the traditional fabric led to modular letterforms. The display type visually interprets the letterforms as motifs to create a sense of pattern and texture, two traits closely associated with the fabric.
